Snake Island Development –Oluwa Community

MEDAL is a planning consultant to the Oluwa Community in Snake Island. Oluwa Community are owners of about 450 hectares, zoned for marine activities, commercial, and residential development.

Snake Island –Land Use, Bridge and Access Road

Snake Island is a 2250-hectare prime land, designated for marine, housing and tourism development. The Federal Government of Nigeria acquired Parcels A, C and D which amount to about 1650 hectares. There are also three indigenous communities and a number of squatters on the island. Following land use planning work for Oluwa Community, Nigerian Ports Authority, the designated Federal Government agency engaged MEDAL as Project Managers, to undertake bridge location and feasibility study for a six-lane toll bridge and access road to link Snake Island to Lagos Mainland and to handle related community matters. Work includes Preliminary Designs and Cost Estimates, Environmental Impact and Resettlement Action Plan for three indigenous communities and contracting Public Private Partners.

Koko Port Privatisation and Expansion Study

Study for the expansion of the existing port in Koko near Benin City from 10 acres with one 135 meters to 90-acre port with three standard berths and warehouses, cold rooms, offices and workshops, and space for cargo handling. The port concession project will benefit Edo State, and Delta State Governments and key importers. Study includes technical, environmental, economic and financial feasibility of dredging the channel to Koko Port facilities to 11 meters and 15 meters in two phases to facilitate transit of container cargo, bulk cargo and general cargo and logistics supply to offshore platforms.

Development of Oil and Gas Logistics Base

Prefeasibility study for the development of oil and gas terminals and logistics base near Koko for exploration and production companies operating in and offshore Edo and Delta states. Study examined site options between a 400 hectare, 2000-meter waterfront land and a larger area of marshland. It also includes preliminary project cost, environmental impact, road access, construction time span, expansion possibilities and respective economics.

Benin Bulk Trade Market Study

Benin Bulk Trade Market for Imports and Certified Export Commodities in a 400-hectare land with necessary infrastructure to be built in phases located within 15 kilometres of Koko Port. The market project has the support of Edo State and Delta State Governments and key importers and commodity traders. Study includes preliminary design and cost estimates of access road, security wall and system, internal roads network and drains, warehouses organised in zones by product type, water and sanitation, electricity and fibre optic network; environmental impact and economics.

International Oil Production Company

We undertook two major data processing assignments for this large oil exploration and production company. The first assignment was to review technical and commercial computer systems and to report on their usefulness to user departments. As a result of the assignment, the client redesigned the commercial computer systems and we provided advice and assisted in managing the project. In the second assignment, we reviewed the client’s computer operations and recommended necessary changes to enable the installation of a package to enhance operational flexibility. We then went on to develop and install a suite of programs as a further aid to enhancing the flexibility and efficiency of the operations department.

State Waste Disposal Board – Nigeria

Assigned to this government agency to develop and install suitable accounting and management information system and establish adequate financial management policies. Project involves training the Board’s staff in accounting routines and in the preparation of budgets and long term plans.

Delta State Ministry of Works (Transport)

We undertook preliminary study for Waterways Development in Delta State including channel improvement, traffic analysis, jetty specification with ancillary facilities – terminal building and shopping; water supply, workshop, fuel and lubricant, search and rescue arrangement; safety, security and environment, waterway code and communication; project programming, cost estimates and funding.

Delta State Ministry of Commerce and Industry

MEDAL undertook a full study including preliminary design and costing of an International Harbour Market in Warri. The study included an analysis of commerce and bulk and retail traffic, demand for shopping facilities, the assessment of technical feasibility, economic viability and social and environmental impact analyses.
